Are things getting better, worse, or staying the same?

I've heard quite a few different opinions on this matter, and I'm curious. Basically, do you think humanity's gotten better, worse, or stayed more or less the same?

The thing is that people look back fifty years ago, notice the change, and completely freak out about it. They try to "retain the past" when really, its all water under a bridge now. Each generation is always different from the last, and just as no two years are carbon copies of eachother. Everything changes, people just have to learn to accept that fact. Change is not bad, therefore, humanity and the face of the planet being different than it was fifty years ago is not bad. Sure, theres stuff I don't agree with my generation about, but is it bad?! No, it is simply a phase of civilization. No different from any other.

Humanity has changed, but in many ways it has stayed the same. It is neither bad nor good. It simply is.

I agree with Skybait. This is a complete opinion. Good things have happened and bad things have happened, but the world is eternally the same. So far growing infinitely more complicated, but eternally the same. It doesn't matter what happened in the past. You can't change it. Learn from it, but don't dwell on it. The future is yet to come, and it will come wether you want it to or not. Prepare for it, but do not dwell on it. Things are getting better, and other things are getting worse. That's how it always will be.

Hard to say. I'd say that in general, some things get progressively better, while others get progressively worse. Eitherway, it was not all nessicarily that much better in the past.
