Episode 7: Bounty Helper

Don't mind if I start this topic, do ya? >.>

Speculation? Anyone?

...maybe it's Metroid? Isnt Samus supposed to be a bounty hunter...? I never played Metroid myself... <.<
Konoko

I played Super Metroid, since we got it for the SNES ages ago, the version with the big box and the guide thing. Course, this was back some time, so this wasn't a guide in the sense nowadays, all it had was a lot of art and screenshots, info and drawings on each of the enemies, strategies for most of the bosses but not much help getting around. xP No help collecting everything.

Either way, I am strongly hoping it is indeed Metroid.
I also do suggest you maybe give it (Super Metroid, Zero Mission, Metroid Fusion...) a try sometime if you can. :3

As for speculation, well, this could be a rather interesting chapter. Most of the ones so far were based on Earth or at least an environment on Earth. while Zebes environment might be substituted for any caverny sort of area, it might not be, perhaps one of the earliest attempts to creating a seperate little world or something. Some may say the cavern thing is more likely, but I'm still hoping. Equally, her enemies are rather a larger group. Mother Brain, I'm assuming it would normally be the stationary sort, based off the first game, but what with my love for Super Metroid (let alone the whole deal for the Metroid Larva in it), the option from Super Metroid isn't impossible. Course, Kraid and Ripley are pretty big things even on their own, let alone all the metroids. I'd hope for the metroid Larva, but thats more for the second time around...course, delivering a larva at the end of the chapter, to (IDR) scientists to study (energy research, flight research, trying to find who made them)...yeah, that could lead in nicely to another chapter sometime, along similar lines to Super Metroid. XD Eh, thats probably a bit overly hopeful.

On the other hand though, its possible that things may be narrowed down somewhat to a smaller scale for now, perhaps simply Ripley and his pirates on a large ship. Ripley alone is a lasting feature in the game, and if only because of the thing with her parents, then I'd say he's definately going to be in a metroid based chapter.

For further speculation, metroid based game cards...Screw Attack is fairly iconic, though making him invincible and damaging to touch while soumersaulting in the air...Its kinda caught between being overpowered and too hard to do without having the Mario Jump or something high to do off. Other options are one of the beams, but that seems unlikely since he already has the super scope. The Speed booster, he already has sonic run, High Jump is also kinda superfluous, the varia and gravity suits, no way. Space Jump would kinda render Mario Jump pointless, so no. Morphball...I suppose the megaman slide may somewhat take that place, but never know. The bombs, spideball and morph jump, etc, all rely on the morphball, so no. X-ray vision scope, not impossible, but unlikely.

Personally, my bets on the grappling beam. :3

Edit: PS, yes, Metroid is one of my geekout points. Right up there with harvest moon and the sims for obsessive play, although this was more in my childhood...combined with reading the wiki and the manga thing showing her childhood... :p
Anomaly

Though, if it is indeed Metroid, one must wonder why the Professor, who was so vehemently against Realizing weapons of any kind in the last chapter, would go ahead and create a woman in full Chozo armour now. Did the Metroids and Space Pirates (or whichever particular villains are in use) appear first, and the IDR decided to bring forth the Hunter to take care of them, similar to the occurrence of A Gamer's Nightmare?

And that little note in parentheses raises another question. Which Metroid game are they using as the source, for the character and the plot? While Metroid: Zero Mission is canonically first, and most of the chapters have centered on a character's first appearance (even going so far back as Jump Man's encounter with Donkey Kong, and that was back when he was a carpenter), there is an exception, and thus, a precedent: Kirby's first enemy was King DeDeDe, and not EnEmEe. Thus, it could be that Bounty Helper will be using a game other than Zero Mission for its starting point.

However, as Zero Mission still seems probable, I took the liberty of going ahead and searching online and finding out all of the available upgrades (and thus, possible Game Cards) for that game.
Power Suit.
--Varia Suit.
Missile.
Long Beam.
Ice Beam.
Wave Beam.
Morph Ball.
--Morph Ball Bombs.
High Jump Boots.
Screw Attack.

In my opinion, the Missile, Long Beam and High Jump boots are all redundant. The Super Scope can already shoot across the room, the Charged Shot probably does just as well as any missile, and the Captain can already Mario Jump. The Wave Beam is, I think, unlikely, since all it does is increase damage and go through walls. The first is unnecessary with a gun that can charge, and the second is too gamelike for the Gamerverse - after all, this is a world where instead of going to an extra life, Mario just gets a broken nose.

While I'd usually say the Suits, either of them, are unlikely, there is no denying that they are very much Samus' signature, and after the Captain's little jaunt with Kirby, I wouldn't be surprised to see him in an altered-to-fit version of the famous Chozo Armour.

Which leaves the Morph Ball, the Screw Attack, and the Ice Beam. Morph Ball seems unlikely unless the Captain gets a suit, and that'd be two Game Cards' worth of equipment. The Screw Attack, however famous, is somewhat redundant, as the Captain already has a jumping maneuver. However, the Ice Beam, I think, is the most likely so far; not only did later games establish that cold weapons are the Metroids' only real weakness, but it fits in nicely with something the Captain already has. He could easily apply the Ice Beam Game Card as a kind of upgrade to the Super Scope - equip both, and you're freezing enemies just like the famous Hunter.

Anyway, that's my take on Game Cards. Long-winded, I know, and I probably missed a fair few points and possibilities. But, there you have it.

...I'm just gonna say nuh-uh to be immature Razz

The armor sounds likely...a little extra protection in battle, y'know? He doesnt have a card for that yet. <.<
Konoko

I did wonder though if the screw attack really was redundant, since the mario jump is effectively just a boosted jump, whereas the screw attack doesn't make you jump any higher (except in smash bros games), its more a very damaging defensive ability that activates while jumping (in a specific way, flipping). I wouldn't rule it out.

As for why the professor would go ahead with it, despite being against creating weapons of any sort...well, I suppose that one could argue that it'd not be too different to the currently realized characters. It wouldn't be just creating weapons that anyone could use, since if I recall right, Samus has Chozo blood and her suit isn't usable by anyone else but her.

Which is partly why I'm a little hesitant at the thought of him getting armour. Specially very advanced armour that increases agility, speed, strength...and would it be upgradeable? That definately seems either a bit much or too little and the chance of it falling into the middle ground a bit reliant on how its used. Maybe its just that I like him being rather vulnerable in combat. Things like that mutual exchange of fire against Czar in OOC, or of standing up against hugely powerful adversarys...knowing that its about not getting hit. *shrug*

As for which game...well, continuing on from what I said about the weapon problem being solved by the suit only being hers, if Fusion or such was chosen, then its even more intrinsic, but I'm doubtful that'd be the first choice. Super Metroid is generally considered a highlight, but it does have elements that lead on from Metroid 2, specifically the hatchling, otherwise being generally similar to the first game in a bigger/better sorta way. While the story could jump ahead, with a created hatchling pet round IDR or something....
Metroid 2 on the other hand, was metroid focused, right up to the Queen, but is sorta the black sheep of the lot and isn't really so well thought of as the others. So, I'm doubtful that'll be the one used.
The original Metroid, and its enhanced remake Zero Mission, which added on that suitless sneaking part and the Mecha Ridley thing...not the greatest difference which was used, unless the Mecha Ridley was specifically done, so its probably easier to just say Metroid.

So, of all the 2D platformers, I'd say the original Metroid/zero mission is the most likely. There is though the option of the Prime series...I'm doubtful there though, maybe in the future sometime, but there is a lot in the earlier/est games that is iconic. Pretty much all the metroids and story for such, for a start. Let alone the ties to her past present that could be brought up in the first confrontation against Ridley (She's BATMAN. Uh, woman.). Mother Brain is pretty iconic too and if some of the potential ties brought up in the emanga are built on about the Chozo using her...or the rumour about organic super computer Aurora units made by the federation, perhaps based on Mother brain....but thats probably venturing too close to fanon. Rolling Eyes

<.< So...yeah. It is possible they just make her ship first, then things go awry, so they make the hunter to go with. After all, a bunch of metroids going about, or an outerspace adventure coming across a bunch of Pirates up there...certainly when you're in her ship, there would be name that comes to mind for who would best help. good point about the screw attack, I could definately see gamer combinding it with the mario jump (as he did with sonic speed and mega slide) but he used ice powers in gamers nightmare, and in kirbys dreamland three there was a mini mission in wich you froze metriods using the ice ability. I do realize that its not likely that it will be snowing if or when the metriods attack, but it seems a little redundant to be able to freeze metriods in two ways. then again technicaly the kirby power itself is a bit redundant. as for the power suit, it could be similar to how he changed wardrobe in the latest OCC. it would open up that form of power use further (besides the "kirby" hats)
TCC

also, we havent entirely confirmed that it will be samas. its extremely EXTREMELY likely, but im sure there are other bounty hunters in the gaming world (none imediately come to mind but you get my point.)
Koji_Tsunami

Captain Falcon is technically suposed to be a bounty hunter, but the only games where he does any fighting are Super Smash Brothers, as far as I know. (Does this mean the the Falcon Punch isn't canon? Has it ever been in a gamer?)

... wait... what? canon? what are you talking about? I am pretty sure falcon is a bounty hunter though, also he has no weapons that I know of, so that kind of reinforces the possibility (perhaps they realize him, and his ship to further practice virtualizing flying objects?)
Majin Luigi

He means 100%, totally official, in game continuity. CANON.
Unless he means cannon, in which case he wants Captain Falcon's fist blown up by a midevil weapon.

From what I can tell, the Falcon Punch has only been used once in the entire history of the F-Zero franchise outside of the Super Smash Brothers series. That was at the end of the Japanese F-Zero anime, And to be honest, I'm not well versed enough in F-Zero to say if that's canon in either F-Zero or GP Legend Game continuity.
TCC

OH... O_o I have seen a video on you tube of falcon using the punch in some kind of anime, but I dont know if thats the only time he's used it or not. it could have been used solely for a link to smash, but im pretty sure he's always had the punch (and I suppose the kick as well) as for the actual F-zero games... not a clue... I'm not really into racing games... of any kind... at all... although from the demo on brawl F-zero does seem kind of cool... Iv'e been talking for way too long... I think im going to stop now....O_o
Captain Gamer

Even if I wanted to be as true to the first F-Zero game as humanly possible, there's just no way I can omit the Falcon Punch. No way, no how.

Oh, and it's Samus. Discuss.
TCC

well, why would the Idr decide to realize samas? it doesnt make alot of scense, and if the militarie studdied her suite long enough they would eventualy create their own version of it, despite the fact that the chozo made it speacial and stuff. anywho, I would asume either space pirates, or metriods are realized by the villain, then they realize samas (as I said in an earlier post not because of her weapons, but because of her experience) to fight them off.
Skybait J

Yes, why would they realize Samus next? Because they're starting to go for meaning behind thier realizations...plus, Samus uses "weapons". Not like Halo weapons, but they are guns.

Military pressure?
Knight of the fort

I think it might have more to do that Samus is one of the single most Human Hero's out there, in mind, body and spirit, and lets not forgot the tech, that power suit would yield a impressive piece of Defensive equipment for police officers and others, like firemen, and peace keepers. the ice beam could be adapted into a super effective piece of fire fighting equipment as well.

and as a added bonus she's really hot.

hmm, I wonder if Luigi will be relized, i bet Mario misses his bro.
TCC

well, i dont know if they would consider her weapons dangerous, cause the suit is only able to function for her. that would mean that it would constantly be in the right hands, and again i think that either space pirates, metroids, or any boss from the series (mother brain, ridely, etc.) would be reason enough for them to realize her. as for luigi, that would start a huge chain for alot of the characters who "miss their freinds". soon peach would be there, then the toads, then a bunch of other people! and think about the other games! sonic would miss his freinds and they would need to be realized too! then if samas comes in.... wait.... samas doesnt have any freinds.... but you get my point! its better not to even start with it...
Anomaly

Although, considering how by the time of OOC there are apparently entire game Worlds out and about, perhaps it started with Realising "missed friends" such as Luigi, and then snowballed from there?

What you say?
[translation]What the crap is that supposed to mean?[/translation]
Knight of the fort

I think that they might be Luigi's and Mario's first words right after Realization.

Luigi always struck me as the sort of person that did not take sudden changes well.
Konoko

The sort to be shocked and frightened, perhaps put on a paper thin brave front, but seek his brother at very first opportunity, to help cope with the strange new world...?

But yeah, although I already speculated a bunch earlier and have been away from the forums (which seem to have gone very quiet) I'm still hotly anticipating the story.

*searches around* Oh. I get it. Mama Weegee.  Ha. Ha.

Anyway, Luigi being realized is an interesting idea.
I think he probably would freak out.

Which would be funny.

THIS STORY MUST BE FINISHED! SOON!
Knight of the fort

I can really agree to that. I also hope he does not have to make it a Chrismas present to us. even if it would be a really sweet one.
Captain Gamer

... Right, reassurance. Proof that there's light at the end of the tunnel. Albeit half-done, half-arsed proof.

*trudges off to various forms of work*

EDIT: This post is too down. Kirby! Do something!

Knight of the fort

it's 12 and a half pages long, most writers call that a decent Chapter.

I would hug you right now, but It might scar you.

Edit:

Ok read it, loved it. Would you like a little Proofreading/ advice from your fans?

You go right ahead. In fact, I may amend the recommendation to do so in the forum rules.
Knight of the fort

Very well then.

Only really problem i caught would be page 11 , First Paragraph.

it would flow a bit better, IMO,  Like this
